Technical Manager - Mill Manager Designate

Based in Somerset - Massachusetts

 

Description:

The Technical Manager provides leadership in the development and management of the Somerset mill. Being a key part of the leadership team working alongside other mill leaders in setting mill-wide priorities and objectives, this person will progress into Mill Manager in the coming months taking over from the current incumbent who will be moving with the business.

 

Responsibilities:

Leadership & Strategy:

· Provide leadership across technical the mill.
· Contribute to mill-wide strategy, priorities and business planning.
· Drive continuous improvement and innovation.
· Support development of teams through coaching, training and succession planning.

 

Operational Excellence & Continuous Improvement:

· Lead initiatives to improve safety, product quality and manufacturing efficiency.
· Drive variable cost reduction and asset optimisation programs.
· Champion Lean, Six Sigma and other continuous improvement methodologies.
· Oversee root-cause analysis, data-driven problem solving and performance tracking.

 

Technical & Quality Management:

· Ensure product quality management systems meet customer expectations.
· Lead production testing, process optimisation and implementation of new technologies.
· Maintain ISO standards and ensure compliance with all quality systems.

 

Environmental & Regulatory Compliance:

· Ensure full compliance with environmental legislation and regulatory requirements.
· Work proactively with regulatory bodies.
· Lead environmental performance initiatives and sustainability efforts.

 

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

· Work closely with operations, procurement, sales and external stakeholders to achieve operational and business goals.

 

Skills & Competencies:

· Strong leadership and people management capability.
· Proven ability to manage multiple priorities.
· Excellent communication and engagement skills.
· Analytical mindset with strong problem-solving abilities.
· Continuous improvement mindset with experience in Lean/Six Sigma or similar.

 

The Person:

· Degree educated in Engineering Principles.
· Significant experience in pulp and paper manufacturing environments (Coated paper experience is a plus).
· Demonstrated leadership experience.
· Experience with continuous improvement methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma, TPM).
· Ability to work cross-functionally in a complex manufacturing environment.
· Willingness to travel as required.
· Commitment to safety, sustainability, and operational excellence.
